Granite Harbour - Committed to being green

Lights, Camera and Sustainable Action!

As we embark on the journey back to the Granite Harbour for Season 2, we are committed to enhancing our sustainability efforts and minimising our environmental impact.

We're thrilled to kick off this conversation about our commitment to being green in the screen industries. So, join us as we dive into our green journey and our commitment to a brighter, greener future on our screens.

Costumes:

  • Prioritising second-hand clothing through rentals, purchases, and donations

  • Ensuring all clothing items are stored for future use, sold to the crew or on vinted and donated to charity shops

Set:

  • Donating, recycling, storing or selling set builds and decorations to reduce waste

  • Hiring equipment stock and kit instead of buying new Reuse, Reuse, Reuse:

  • Encouraging the use of reusable water bottles and coffee cups on set

  • Implementing the use of mugs and reusable water bottles in the office

  • Providing water in recycled water cooler bottles for repeated use

  • Encouraging the use of crockery and stainless-steel cutlery instead of disposable containers wherever possible

  • Using vegeware and wooden cutlery on days where we’re in remote locations

LED Lights:

  • Transitioning to lower energy LED lighting to reduce energy consumption on set

  • Motion sensors in lights in offices

Travel:

  • Encouraging train travel at all times

  • Encouraging car sharing, walking or cycling where possible

  • Using local crew where possible to minimise travel

  • Reducing unnecessary travel by using video conferencing for production meetings and read-throughs

Paperless Production:

  • Establishing a paperless production environment, with printed documents only when specifically requested

  • Using eco-friendly, recycled paper for any necessary printed materials

Reusable Consumables:

  • Maximizing the lifespan of consumables through the use of reusable and rechargeable batteries in both the Sound and Camera department

Vehicles:

  • Introducing hybrid vehicles into our fleet, both on and off-screen, to make sustainable choices in transportation – including an electric taxi, one electric action vehicle and one hybrid action vehicle

Bins and Recycling:

  • Supplying Bins for General Waste, Paper and Cardboard, Plastic Bottles and Food and Drinks Cans

Training:

  • Engaging with Zero Waste Scotland’s Food Waste Production Pilot Scheme including on-site visits to discuss and implement better practices for food waste management

  • Production Team taking part in Albert sustainability training

  • Producers taking part in editorial sustainability training

By collectively embracing these initiatives, we aim to reduce our carbon footprint and promote a greener production environment. The dedication of the entire team to making environmentally conscious choices will lead to a both a successful and sustainable production of Granite Harbour Season 2!
